Acton Academy is built on the foundation of a learner-driven community when it comes to early childhood education. These communities are run by lifelong learners, Eagles, who are closely connected to each other through clear covenants. In this blog post, we will provide you with a guide to our learner-driven community at Acton Academy.
Written Promises and Mentor Teams
Each student will create and sign a Contract of Promises that describes how they will act as a member of the community, and what consequences they could face if they violate the community norms. The Eagles also have mentor teams that encourage younger and older students to listen, affirm, set goals, and hold each other accountable. Upon completing leadership goals and challenges, students are able to receive “Learn to Be” badges. This program teaches our students how to be leaders and work together as a team to achieve their goals.
Socratic Discussions
We hold deep Socratic discussions with our students on various topics, including history and self-governance. Through our self-paced discussions, our students will learn to think critically and express their ideas clearly with one another. Our teachers facilitate these discussions and help guide the conversations.
Latest Educational Technology
Modern early childhood education requires the use of the latest technologies, which is why we make sure our students have access to the best resources. Interactive technology is vital to our learning processes, allowing our children to learn various topics at their own pace.
Hands-On Quests
We offer hands-on Quests for our students, which are designed to prepare them for real-world challenges and provide them with intuitive learning experiences. They will also gain skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. With a focus on areas such as science, entrepreneurship, and the arts, our Quests provide a truly immersive and well-rounded education for our children.
At Acton Academy, we believe that our learner-driven community is one of the best ways for our students to learn. It allows them to take charge of their own education and learn how to be responsible citizens. If you have any questions about our learner-driven community, please feel free to contact us.
